Is being bilingual enough?

Publicado por Eladio Jimenez M. el julio 24, 2012
Publicado en: Sobre Sapientiae. Etiquetado: changing your life, english as a second language, exact words, good customer service, interpretation skills, teaching english as a second language.

In short, no it’s not.

In our experience teaching English as a second language more than 90% of our students, when prompted why do you study English?, answer to get a better job or something similar to that, even if they do not use those exact words. Mostly everybody is looking to increase income or to get a better position or simply change their job.

After finishing their studies many come to realize that is not sufficient with speaking the language, that being bilingual is but a step in the process of getting a better position. The skills required to achieve the goal of changing your life, in terms of job, does not come attached to being able to speak English.

Good customer service, problem solving, interpretation skills and many other skills needed to get the job of your dream come from hard study and the decision of designing your career. Choosing the right courses for you is as important as speaking the language.

Consider our selection of courses designed to provide you all the skills you need to be successful in your job searching quest.

Interpreting in the Dominican Republic

Publicado por Eladio Jimenez M. el julio 24, 2012
Publicado en: Sobre Sapientiae. Etiquetado: bilingual individuals, interpretation centers, interpretation course, language line services, languagelink, pacific interpreters.

OPI Cycle

The call center industry has seen a great growth in the recent years, bringing a source of income to bilingual individuals regardless of their background. Of the various types of call centers that we have in the Dominican Republic. the OPI (over the phone interpretation) Centers have seen the greatest growth in the last 2 years.

The history of OPI in the Dominican Republic can be traced back to Language Line Services who started their operations in the country over 10 years ago. Since then, other companies have started their venture for interpretation service in the DR. Centers like Pacific Interpreters, where medical Interpreting is provided; ACS with their Insurance Interpreting program, CypressDom also serving OPI and more recently we have heard about LanguageLink and Synergies Strategic Services starting their interpreting operations too.

The market is growing and the pay is growing with it too. However the high demand for people, who besides being bilingual, can also interpret is not being met. The lack of a place where to study the art of interpretation is responsible for the small pool of candidates to fill the positions that all these call centers have.

Sapientiae has created the first course for interpretation in the Dominican Republic. If you want to be a part of the best paying and fastest growing sub-industry in the call center world, then you want to invest in your education to become an over the phone interpreter.

The first Basic Interpretation course is about to start, for more information and enrollment contact us at:

Culture and Customer Service

Publicado por Eladio Jimenez M. el julio 19, 2012
Publicado en: Sobre Sapientiae.

Many of us have heard how eating with your bear hands is a normal habit in some cultures. Dominicans however would not do that, at least not in front of people. What we see as good or bad is conditioned by our cultural background. What can be considered as a good and  even encourageable act  by a particular culture, may be seen as offensive in another.

The same holds true for the customer service industry. Knowing the nuances of the culture we deal with, may be the difference between a very pleasant experience and one that could make you lose a customer or even more.

In the case of the call center industry in Dominican Republic, we cater mainly to the United States;but  this does not mean that we will provide the same type of customer service to all of the customers who call from the U.S.The idiosyncrasy varies depending on where the customer is calling from within the United States.

To learn about the nuances of customer service catered for the US, consider our American Culture Orientation Course.

Customer Service

Publicado por Eladio Jimenez M. el julio 17, 2012
Publicado en: Sobre Sapientiae. Etiquetado: class customer service, customer service representative, poor customer service, world class customer.

What makes the difference between a very good company and an excellent one? What makes people choose a more expensive service over a cheaper one?  What is the common denominator of all the largest companies in the world?

The answer to all these questions is the same: Customer service, understood as the experience that any client, whether internal or external, has during the whole experience with a representative.

We all know of places where we have sworn not going back, not because the product or service purchased was not good, but because the experience with the representative was so bad that it shadows the benefits of the product or service that is offered. There’s always a department in the company where we prefer not to call unless is unavoidable, again, for the same reason: poor customer service.

Today’s market demands people who are customer oriented, proactive and pleasant to deal with. Learning the right techniques and strategies for dealing with customers, even with the very difficult ones, is the key to make yourself more valuable to the service industry.

Consider our Customer Service Course. 8 hours of pure hands on training on customer service. Divided in 2 sessions of  4 hours each, this course is intended for all type of public, it addresses everything you need in to be able to provide a world class customer service.

Be it that you deal with coworkers or that you are a front desk customer service representative or if you want to start a career in the customer service field, this course if for you.

Don’t miss this opportunity for only RD$990 the course starts on July 27th.
